Slovenian company, Engrotuš, announced its first investment in Macedonia in 2007, presenting an ambitious plan to open more than 20 supermarkets in several cities. Initially, the Slovenian company presented a plan to Macedonian authorities to invest 90 million euros and create 700 new jobs.
In May 2008, the Slovenian company registered in Macedonia as Tush Trade DOOEL, opened its first market in Shtip.
According to information given at the opening, the first realised investment of this group was worth 2.6 million euros.
"Over the course of the next five years we want to invest 60 million euros in Macedonia to build 20 markets," announced Alexander Svetelsek, the managing director of Engrotuš at the time.
In July of that year, the company opened their second supermarket in Kumanovo.
"From the beginning of our operations in Macedonia, our goal has been to open 20 supermarkets in a five-year period. We have targeted and want to enter in all major cities in Macedonia. Certainly, one of our main targets is your capital, Skopje, due to the number of inhabitants and the economic situation," explained the director of Tush Trade, Jernej Morni who noted that Tush had employed a total of 70 people in both supermarkets.
Although the third supermarket of Tush was announced in Prilep and according to the announcements, it was worth over 2.5 million euros and would have opened over 40 jobs, it was not realised.
The ceremony of laying the cornerstone in Prilep was attended by the Minister of Transport and Communications, Mile Janakieski.
"The Government and the Ministry of Transport and Communications give full their support for the construction of Tush hypermarkets. They will enhance competitiveness, increasing employment and engaging construction companies," stated Minister Janakieski at the cornerstone laying ceremony on October 11, 2008.
Later, in December 2008, the company opened their third supermarket in Veles where they employed 21 people.
Although the company announced supermarkets to be opened in Skopje, Strumica, Prilep, Struga, Gevgelija and other cities, the Slovenian retail chain opened only three supermarkets in the country.
Tush Trade DOOEL Skopje in Macedonia was registered in March 2008 and had the founding capital of 5 thousand euros. It is fully owned by Engrotuš DOO Celje, Slovenia.
